Double Bass

Swiss musician recognised for his work at the crossroads of jazz, improvised music, classical music and the performing arts.

His career has been shaped by sonic exploration, interdisciplinary collaboration and an ongoing search for new forms of artistic expression. He is a recipient of the Solothurn Canton Arts Prize.

Biography

Having studied classical double bass with Béla Szédlak in Bern and Pierre Favre in Lucerne, Markus Fischer developed a distinctive musical language based on listening, interaction and improvisational freedom.

Throughout his career he has collaborated with leading figures of the international music scene, including Pierre Favre, Franco Ambrosetti, Glenn Ferris, Claudio Roditi and Mark Nightingale. He was also a member of the Basel Sinfonietta.

His playing is characterized by stylistic openness, a strong sonic presence and a constant search for new forms of musical expression. Moving between jazz, contemporary music, free improvisation and interdisciplinary projects, he creates sound worlds where spontaneity, precision and imagination converge.
