ALEXANDER GORDON
Conductor
Alexander Gordon is one of the most versatile musicians of his generation – a conductor, violist, chamber musician and educator with an international career spanning Europe, Asia, Australia and the United States. A former Principal Viola of the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 23, he has since established himself as a conductor of striking expressiveness and artistic integrity.
He has led orchestras including the INSO-Lviv Ukrainian Orchestra, Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Sofia Philharmonic, Mannheim Chamber Orchestra, the National Opera of Ukraine, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. His collaborations include leading artists such as Mischa Maisky, Simon Trpčeski, Roman Simovic, Gordon Nikolic, Boris Garlitsky, Tabea Zimmermann and others.

Alexander Gordon received his foundational musical education at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre with Marius Nichiteanu, later completing his Master’s degree at ZUYD Maastricht under Michael Kugel. He continued his postgraduate studies with Tabea Zimmermann at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin and subsequently earned a second Master’s degree in conducting at ZUYD under the mentorship of Vassily Sinaisky. His artistic formation was further shaped through masterclasses with Kirill Petrenko, Vladimir Jurowski, Neeme Järvi and Paavo Järvi, whose influence deepened his musical language and interpretive profile.
As a chamber musician, Gordon has performed with leading international artists including Mischa Maisky, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Gerhard Schulz, Natalia Gutman, Torleif Thedéen, Eldar Nebolsin and Maximilian Hornung. His versatility and refined musicality are reflected in recordings released on Toccata Classics, Naxos, Chandos, Navis Classics and LPO Live.
Alongside his active concert career, he is a dedicated educator. Gordon teaches at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne and the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, working closely with the next generation of European instrumentalists and conductors. A prizewinner of several international competitions, he brings together extensive orchestral experience, a distinguished viola background and a growing international reputation as a conductor of depth and integrity.
