ALEXANDER BOLDACHEV

Harp

Alexander Boldachev is one of the most distinctive harpists of his generation: a virtuoso performer, composer, educator and multidisciplinary artist. A Bulgari Watch Ambassador and exclusive Salvi Harps artist, he shapes the contemporary image of the harp and performs in major venues worldwide — from Carnegie Hall in New York and Salle Gaveau in Paris to the Musikverein in Vienna and the Great Hall of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic.

A laureate of numerous prestigious competitions and recipient of awards such as Britain’s Brilliant Prodigies, the Aoyama Music Award (Kyoto), Pro Europa, and Switzerland’s Prix Walo, he is known for his unusually broad artistic range. His activities span solo performances, composition, festival curation, media projects, cross-disciplinary collaborations and extensive outreach.

Biography

He is the author of more than 200 harp transcriptions — from Rimsky-Korsakov, Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky to rock, pop and film music. His electronic solo performance at the FIFA World Cup 2018 Opening Ceremony became one of its signature artistic moments.

Alexander founded the first Harp Festival in Zurich (2019) and initiated World Harp Day (2020), uniting more than 100 harpists from 50 countries on one platform. His work is dedicated to expanding the harp repertoire, promoting the instrument, and redefining its place in contemporary culture.

Alexander began his musical education in St. Petersburg, continued his studies in France, and completed his professional training in Switzerland. He graduated from the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in harp, composition and conducting, as the top student of Professor Catherine Michel.

He gives masterclasses at the Juilliard School, Royal Academy of Music, Royal Conservatory Toronto, the Liszt Academy in Budapest and other leading institutions. His educational work reflects the same mission that defines his artistic career: advancing the modern harp school internationally.
