HÉLÈNE GALATEA CONRAD

Violin

Hélène Galatea Conrad is a violinist committed to the field of early music and regularly performs with various Baroque ensembles, including Moment Baroque, Hortus Amoris, Ensemble Baroque du Léman, Ensemble Baroque de Joux, Capella Paterniascencis, Orchester des BarockZentrum, Capella Concertata, and Ensemble Collegium La Chiésaz.

She also participates in numerous chamber music projects. Among the musicians she has collaborated with are Andreas Scholl, Guy Bovet, Pierre-Alain Clerc, Lucien Dubuis, and many others.

In addition to her activity in early music, she spent fifteen years in an Irish pop-rock band, exploring the principles of improvisation and musical interaction in a different setting.

Biography

She is a recipient of the Fritz Bach Award, from the Association of Friends of the Conservatory (COV) and the Marlyse and Pierre Reymond competition, and has also benefited from scholarships from the Jean Tanner and Nicati De-Luze foundations.

Attracted to interdisciplinary projects, she participated in the Musical Metaphor Research Group (GEMLAB), where she presented several projects, including MIE, a reflection on the connections between music and image, as well as The Musical Neurons, presented during the “Music and Science” festival. Her interest in transdisciplinarity in the performing arts led her to collaborate with storytellers, performers, dancers, and visual artists, thereby enriching her artistic approach.

She received her musical training at the Haute École de Musique de Genève (Neuchâtel site) in the class of Stefan Muhmenthaler, where she obtained a master’s in pedagogy, before continuing her studies in Florence Malgoire’s class at the Centre de Musique Ancienne de Genève, where she obtained a master’s in performance. It was during her studies that she discovered the Baroque violin, a revelation that marked her musical journey and defined her artistic orientation.
