ALAIN CHRISTEN
Dancer
Baroque dancer Alain Christen studied Classical and Contemporary Dance at the Ballettberufsschule Zürich and pursued a dance career in Switzerland and Germany at the Opernhaus Zürich (under Patricia Neary & Rudolf Nureyev), Grand Théâtre de Genève (under Oscar Araiz), Schweizer Kammerballett (under Jean Deroc),
Stadttheater Münster, Oberhausen, and Städtische Bühnen der Stadt Bielefeld (under Wolfgang Geisendoerfer). He holds a diploma in Classical Dance Pedagogy from the Institut für Musiktheater Wien, studying under Professor Karol Thòt. Since 1995, Alain Christen has focused on the repertoire of Historical Dances (Renaissance – Baroque – 19th century).
Biography
He collaborates as a dancer and choreographer with: Cie Côté Cour, Côté Jardin Genève, Hofdantzer Wien, Choreography at Staatstheater Karlsruhe (Handel Festspiele 2005), Barocktheater Ludwigsburg Stuttgart, Ensemble baroque du Léman, and Ensemble Baroque “Erato Ensemble Freiburg.”
In 1999, he founded an association “Les Boréades” in Vevey to establish a structure for study and performance in the field of Ancient Dances in French-speaking Switzerland. He regularly teaches in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria at the Österreichisches Ballett-Seminar in Wolfsegg am Hausruck and at the École de Danse Classique Geneviève Chaussat in Geneva.
