DAVID KHRIKULI
Piano
David Khrikuli is one of the most remarkable young pianists of his generation, praised for his poetic individuality, intuitive phrasing and rare emotional depth. A finalist of the 19th International Chopin Piano Competition 2025 in Warsaw, he became one of the most discussed artists of the season for the sincerity and freedom of his playing.
“His interpretations are full of absolute passion and complete dedication to music – a natural, effortless expression with enormous emotional power.”
– Arcadi Volodos, Madrid 2023
Biography
Born in Tbilisi, he began piano at the age of eight and won his first international competition at eleven. Early on he explored every musical style – classical, jazz, contemporary, even pop – recalling: “I touched the keys and invented harmonies knowing nothing about music.”
Khrikuli has since become laureate of numerous international competitions, including the Arthur Rubinstein Competition for Young Pianists. He is also a prizewinner of the Vigo and Cantù competitions and has participated in the Cliburn Competition. In 2025 he became a finalist of the 19th International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, drawing wide international attention.
He has performed with the Georgian Philharmonic, Israel Camerata, Israel Philharmonic, Moscow Philharmonic, the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, as well as with the Casals and Tsintsadze quartets. His artistic credo rests on sincerity:
“You must forget yourself. You transmit the composer’s feeling to the audience.”
From 2008 to 2015, he studied at the Paliashvili Central Music School with Darejan Tsintsadze and Revaz Tavadze. Since 2020 he has continued his education at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid — first with Galina Eguiazarova, later with Stanislav Ioudenitch — receiving further mentorship from Elisabeth Leonskaja, Arie Vardi, Nelson Goerner, Rena Shereshevskaya, András Schiff and Eldar Nebolsin.
Khrikuli represents a new generation of pianists whose sincerity, depth and imagination extend far beyond the competition stage.
